AUSTRALIA - JOHNNY COLLIDE'S BLOG - FOLLOWING PEOPLE

Blog

It’s what we do now. Instead of swallowing mass media en masse direct from the source we get pointed to articles, snippets and meems by our collective peers via their forum posts, status updates and tweets. I still read the paper, but often I find out about new stories from forums or forwarded emails.

AUSTRALIA - JOHNNY COLLIDE'S BLOG - IMPROVISING

The other day at V Festival, the singer from Wolf & Cub came down with a virus and couldn’t play so myself and three of the boys from Tame Impala got invited to jam with the rest of them to fill in their slot at the festival. It was fun and, as you’d expect from all those guys, quite psychedelic with much wah and delay bouncing around over toms. It got me thinking about doing a little blog with some improvising in it.

I’m sure loads of people have seen this, but my mate Jack told me about it the other night. James Brown invites Michael Jackson up on to the stage. He obliges and does his thing. Then Michael mentions that Prince is in the audience. James calls him up. Bizarrely, he gets carried to the stage on the back of some massive bearded bloke, grabs a guitar and awkwardly stabs around on it, then I think he tries to fuck it. Then he takes his shirt off, performs some sort of sexy pterodactyl mating ritual on the mic, and, as he makes his way off the stage pulls down this pillar/light pole thing on to himself as he stumbles back on to the bearded giant.

AUSTRALIA - JOHNNY COLLIDE'S BLOG - THE 3RD INSTALMENT

L_fe5ac601035c21378a651a685197c98c
This week's blog is about a guy I have known about for some time now, and hopefully you do too, but in case you don’t....
....I was introduced to Peter and the Wolf by my ex-girlfriend (musically, not personally), which kinda sucks listening to it now 'cause you know how music can be forever associated with a particular person and bring old feelings to the surface? Anyway, it’s that sort of music I guess. She also introduced me to Bon Iver and Fleet Foxes long before I’d heard anyone else mention them and I’d recommend this to people who got into those albums last year. The artist is a guy named Red and the album I’ve particularly gotten into is called Lightness. It’s so full of beauty, nostalgia and wisdom and just great songs. I love his voice. Here's his MySpace so you can check it out. Enjoy. Johnny

P.S. If you’re not into Peter and the Wolf then here’s a funny bread commercial.

AUSTRALIA - JOHNNY COLLIDE'S BLOG - THE 2ND INSTALMENT

Once in a while a band comes along who restores your faith in music, who stand out from the crowd, who turn your taste buds upside down, and darn it, make you feel good about life. Forlorn Gaze (pronounced Full-On-Gays), are sorta, kinda, possibly this band and “Extremo” is maybe, almost, the new rock, the new indie, the new electro, even the new metal but definitely the new musical drug that kids are gonna suck in like a shadow-boxing chromer with his head in a plastic bag.
