Yes, it is unless you are really into beaches then you would really like it. Also, you really need alot of money to do it right. Alot of the medium priced hotels are just terrible. Think worse than a MOTEL 6 and food prices are sooo high. Just to get a coffee and a muffin can be ten dollars. BUT if you like to go camping, you would like Australia.

I tried the same thing but ran out of money faster then I expected, make sure you have a rather large savings or try to do odd jobs along the way. Also, avoid hitchiking if possible, had some bad experiences with that, there's a lot of weirdos out there...
