NEW YORK - THE ALMIGHTY DEFENDERS ARE HERE FOR YOU

It's a pretty widely known fact that Vice outsources all of its blog posts to India. So when the Black Lips came to my country earlier this year, I was pretty pumped on experiencing some sweaty American rock 'n' roll. Unfortunately, the Black Lips were kicked out before I had the chance to see them. Instead, they flew to Berlin, where they recorded an album with their friends King Khan and BBQ. Needless to say, the album kicks ass (and they recorded it in under a week!). 

It's being released under the moniker The Almighty Defenders, which incidentally would make a great name for a superhero collective from the Crusades. Anyways, the album is now available for pre-order from our website, and if you buy it, we'll throw in a bonus track for free! The track, "Ghost With The Most," was recorded live during their Practice Space session which, appropriately, is now available to watch on VBS.

These guys are better off on their own...and yes, Mark Sultan is the most talented member

So much of Black Lips' popularity comes from trumped up "news" about how they got "thrown out of the country" or "pissed in each others' mouths". I saw these guys two years ago, and it sounded like any other garage rock band, albeit one w/ good songs. The hype machine has made them what they are, NOT their music
