A full moon has passed since last the face of God received a metal fisting. Well, back we are, dealing an overdue slab of classic speed/thrash metal courtesy of Jersey's Whiplash.
Whiplash are, for me, one of the great power thrash bands of the mid-80s. The more keen-eyed readers may have spotted that the band were recently featured on Fenriz's Trapped Under Vice, Vol. I with the track "The Burning of Atlanta," which was taken from their sophomore offering, Ticket To Mayhem. Personally, I've always been a big fan of Whiplash's '85 album, Power and Pain, which has the type of intensity that first attracted me to thrash metal in the first place. Everything about that records is classic to me, down to the hand-drawn cover. After a long hiatus and the sad passing of original bassist Tony Bono, Whiplash are back touring, having released a new album last Wednesday, and they have their own line of hot sauce!? Now that is merch. A lot better than Dave Mustaine's coffee, that's for sure.
Anyways, if, like me, you find yourself in Oslo next week, come and see Whiplash, Agent Orange, and the excellent Nekormantheon, who I featured on here a few weeks back. Promises to be a big, big show. Next week's AFITFOG post will be coming from Norway's Øyafestival (I'm seeing Aura Noir at last!). Stay tuned.
