If you're around the Upper West Side early this evening make it a point to have your ass inside the Barnes & Noble at 82nd and Broadway at 7. Barry Gifford, master storyteller and contributor to our last Fiction Issue, will be reading from his new book The Imagination of the Heart, aka the final chapter of the Sailor and Lula saga. Just in case the long weekend barfed all over your powers of recall, Mr. Gifford is responsible for Wild at Heart, the Lost Highway screenplay, Wyoming, Night People, and a veritable smorgasbord of some of the best American writing of the last century. Unless your mother's on her deathbed or you've recently lost at least one leg, there's really not a valid excuse to skip it.
this might actually convince me to go to the forbidden land that is uptown Manhattan. normally I avoid it at all costs...

It must feel great having Lynch make your book into a film and then just as bad for him to cast Nic Cage as the main character.
