Sheesh, choosing a tracklisting to fit your New Year's Eve party is tough. As you should have already realised the whole night is usually a total let down anyway so the least you can do is party to some good songs. The selection is a always a total pain though. How do you satisfy a room full of people who all think they know more about music than one another? Simple: Plain out-geek them. Luckily, just in case you don't have the crate-digging, blog-addicted nous to rustle up a mix of obscurer than super obscure tracks, our buddies Jiro and Rodaidh are here to rescue your good time. They have put together a little compilation of what Jiro described as "sort of Kraut, Prog, Synth, Disco, Italo, Balaeric, Cosmic-y stuff. But all mixed up." Riiiiiiight. Anyway, you can download their "Touching Mix" here and there is tracklisting on Bevis's never-less-than-amazing Voodoo Village blog here.

easy - start with can's tago mago, kraftwerk's computer world, and your favorite album by the fall. put those on random.
then, when things get cracking a little, simply put on dfa compilation #2. bam! no need to skip, people can dance if they want, and if someone's snobby enough to complain about the dfa, then they get shown the door. problem solved.

i, for one, would complain about dfa and i am not a snob. the music just sucks, and if you want to put on some danceable tunes you could do a lot better. so, mr. (or mrs.?) birth marcus, fuck you. with a broomstick.

i disagree with this entire concept. drunk people want to hear music they know. you can't have an entire playlist of songs they can't sing along to, you will have people trying to change your music the entire party which is the most annoying thing in the world.

just make an itunes playlist with every hall & oates song they ever put out and everyone will love you forever and ever.
