"Blood" and "swords" might be most commonly uttered words in any conversations about Manowar. They’re also the basic cornerstones in a fantasy novel. But that’s not what we’re concerned with here. “Blod & Svärd” is the completely new death/black/doom/proto metal club, that our friend and Vice contributor Daniel Söderberg is launching, together with his buddy Bonden. They’re telling us that, “it will lay all other so-called ‘metal bars’ to rest.” So, woohoo! The premier is October 2, and then they’ll be going at it every first Thursday of the month at Bröderna Olsson in Stockholm. Here’s a little manifesto that Daniel just sent us...
"We’ve got two favourite pastimes: heavy metal and even heavier drinking. And when it comes to both those things it's about time someone put a blowtorch under the ass of the depressing climate in Stockholm.
"If you’re into generic shit like In Flames, Disturbed and Mustasch you’ve got a wide variety of choice - any dive that serves “veckans öl” is going to be your Xanadu. BUT! If you're like us, if you like your metal raw, ugly and with context, you best stumble down the stairs to the cave situated below BRÖDERNA OLSSON, order a pitcher of beer, a couple of garlic shots and start discussing which out of “Scream Bloody Gore” and “Leprosy” is the ultimate album by Death. And whether November really is Sweden's first heavy metal band or if, in fact, they were nothing but a bunch of hippies that got lucky and, for once, did something that could stand the test of time.
"We will dig up the dirtiest of graves, loot the stenchiest of record bins, and regurgitate the most underestimated albums of time in order to give you the best in extreme music from 1968 to 2008. That’s 40 years of quality right there!”
