As well as playing bass in Misandao, Mark Oi (pictured) has been taking photographs of his friends in Beijing's punk and skinhead scene for almost a decade. As you might be able to tell, he's a huge fan of Skins photographer Gavin Watson. And to thank us for sending him a copy of Gavin's new book, Mark sent us a selection of his favourite photos from over the years.

Punk was an Uproar when it first came about. Its a lot harder to be "punk" in a place like China than it is in the U.K. or U.S. The anti-government message could get you killed there, instead of just pissing your parents off.

i agree with Tommy. being a Punk in China is like being a swinger in Saudi Arabia.

well tommy is wrong. it's not that tough, the punk scene there is too small to really piss the government off. it hard to be a punk there for a lot of reasons, but its not like they are on the run from the law. if it were i doubt they would be so into making films, publishing books, and taking photos.

There's american skinheads (of asian, european, hispanic, and black decent). So think about it, the skinhead culture was made by white skins and black (jamaican) immigrants, just like how the british took the us influence in punk music, the skinhead movement is all over now.
