SPAIN - MORE SPORTS BLUNDERS

Wow Spain, really? Dear oh dear. Casual racism and discrimination in Spanish sport is alive and well and pulling slitty eyes and making monkey noises and mimicking disabled people...

You might have thought that Spain would be trying to keep a lid on it after its fans were exposed for taunting black athletes with bananas. Not to mention the time their national football coach called Thierry Henry a "black shit". But it seems they can't help it.

Look at this advert published by the Spanish Basketball Federation to wish good luck to the men's team (current Olympic champions) in the Beijing Games. Evidently it didn't occur to anyone that this pose might be inappropriate or offensive to Chinese people.

It is a shame really. Basketball in Spain has been in need of positive PR ever since that time they won gold at the Sydney Paralympic Games with a team who later transpired were not  disabled at all.

the eye pulling thing is not derogatory or racist in spain. it has no negative connotations or undertone towards the chinese. it was meant as a joke.
the u.s. and the u.k. who had to stick their hipocritial noses in what's not their business, as well as look down their aforementioned appendages on everyone else, and impose their own cowardly code of conduct on the rest of the world. it's also a well known fact that the u.s. and the u.k. have shown a lot of racism throughout the years (interventionism, colonialis, imperialism, shall i go on? maybe they shouldn't be the ones to throw the first stone)

so they say that the whole spanish population must be racist if the basketball team do this (generalisations galore!), that they had not thought it would offend when publishing the ad? have the u.s. and the u.k. not thought that, maybe, perhaps, possibly, this wasn't offensive anywhere else? or that maybe the chinese wouldn't be offended?

because the chinese embassy in spain responded to the ad plus angloamerican outrage saying that they WERE NOT OFFENDED AND TOOK IT AS A JOKE. as did many chinese inmigrants in spain when asked by the media. because their eyes ARE slanted.
one of the interviewed chinese person said that in their country, when they referred to the white man, they did the opposite and opened up their eyes. and he did that in tv.

sure, some of the things mentioned above in the post were racist, but there are idiotic racist people EVERYWHERE and surely these isolated cases do not make a whole population racist in its entirety. have a little ommon sense.
